What’s going on with the L405 Range Rover?

The L405 Range Rover is an absolutely known vehicle. We have seen them everywhere pretty much! it is a benchmark suv and these are owned by the Kardashians and royals and are only just being replaced by the newer 2023 Range Rover. Does this Range Rover have what it takes to be a legend like the previous L322? Lets find out.

Now obviously, the L405 is a better car than the L322. Its better in every-way but, something is missing. I have sat in them side by side and even after sitting in them back and forth for years, i still notice it. Some utilitarian nature has gone and also character. Now i have a feeling that that character is mainly a lack of trust because when i sit in the older L322, theres a slight lack of trust that this newer one doesn’t have. That toxicity feeling makes the older one more exciting however, if you buy the older one because of that and nothing else then you’d be missing out, let me explain….

Firstly, Let’s start with the interior now, i know that in terms of interior, there is not much in it between this and the previous Range Rover in terms of the luxury feel. The main difference is the technology. The L405 has bluetooth streaming! I know it doesn’t sound like a big deal but trust me it is!!! You cant trust radio stations these days.

Other than that it’s the simpler interface. The older L322 has so many buttons so it becomes slightly difficult to use when driving. You have to look around all the buttons but on this newer one, its simpler. This one also has a fridge finally! Other than that they both have two glove boxes and the screen that can show two separate things at once. This one also has the damped glove box and centre console and the back seats are decent too. The L322 feels slightly boxier and higher up but thats obvious just by looking at them from the outside, The elephant in the room wasn’t gonna hide well behind the couch was it?

Next is the boot. The boot slopes slightly more than the older Range Rover but when it comes to boot space, theres not much in it. This one also comes with a power folding tailgate luckily. One of the many i’ve tested however was broken which was not good. The L405 as you can see also has a panoramic sunroof which the older one doesn’t have. The older ones did have a sunroof but it was almost always guaranteed to leak. These newer ones had no sign of leakage.

Now the way it looks. I Think this car commands a stately presence. I know a-lot of cars have began to copy this look but when it was new, it was the original and still is. The L405 is a very good looking car. It’s not the best however because the newer facelift 2018 i think looks strange at the back but that was later fixed with the 2023 Range Rover. Whether this looks better than the predecessor is completely subjective. The L322 has this Boxy presence that i love. These days boxy cars just look too good. When you see a G wagen in a city or something it just looks out of place and i love it. Boxy cars turn heads these days and the boxier L322 with time might age better than this one.

In terms of the way it drives well there isn’t much i can tell you other than it drives supreme. It’s slightly firmer than the Range Rover L322 but thats because of the anti-roll bars. Other than that, i think it drives lighter. It feels like it wants to go where as the older L322 feels like it wants its own relaxed pace. This is also lighter actually than the predecessor so its slightly faster as well and better on fuel. It just feels like a more modern version of the L322 which makes sense because thats exactly what it is.

What can i say, the car is amazing!! thats all there is to it really. It’s reliable compared to the older ones. I have not seen a single one broken down ever but i’ve seen multiple L322’s. Its fast, comfortable, good-looking, Its not brash or vulgar but has all the luxuries and off-road capabilities that the older L322 had. What more could you want?

Before i conclude however, Let me introduce you to the Daddy Range Rover. The Range Rover Classic. The the box on wheels. This car makes me smile all the time. Whenever i see one i smile. This is exactly what the world is missing. Boxy suv’s are so iconic and i’m afraid that aerodynamics are killing crazy looking cars as we know them. We all thought it was the electric era thats killing but even the aerodynamics and styling is going away. The L405 Range Rover is an amazing car but, that character thing i was taking about stayed with the L322. The boxy shape has no regard for styling and fashion but a pure tool look. This is why cars like the G wagen are so iconic and i wish they continued.

So while the L405 is obviously a better car, i still think the Range Rover L322 is a more iconic Land Rover because it retains that boxy Land Rover look that we all love.
