For a product to be legendary it has to be able to leave a mark on the car community. A car may be an icon but is that enough to make it a legend? Find out the most legendary Land Rovers of all time

1. Land Rover Range Rover Classic

It was a tough decision picking between this and the iconic Land Rover 110 and 90. As a legendary Land Rover they are both iconic in their own right for the revolutions they brought to the brand but also to the 4×4 community as a whole. For the number 1 spot however it’s the Range Rover Classic that is the rightful most legendary Land Rover despite it being less iconic than the Defender. While you’ll see defenders moving around cities all around the world, the Range Rover Classic is just that little but more exclusive and rare in comparison. It’s the original Range Rover and rightfully so does it deserve the name Classic. From its unmistakable proportions and it’s boxiness to its round headlights and square tail lamps, this car has been in games such as GTA San Andreas which scores it some points. The Range Rover Classic was an improvement from the old series 3 and so on. It’s the dominator when it comes to off-roading. It also scores points for originality. Whilst the defender/series 1-3 was based on a Willis Jeep. The Range Rover Classic was an all new design. I can’t help but smile whenever I see a Range Rover Classic. Its iconic-ness is one of the many reasons they are shooting up in value like juice going up a straw. Good luck finding one for a good price! The Range Rover Classic is without doubt a true Land Rover.

2. Land Rover Defender/ Series 1-3/130,110 and 90

The Land Rover. This is without doubt the most iconic Land Rover. The go anywhere do anything machine. Anyone can own it from queen to farmer. One of the few cars that can roll around without having a segmented class. The Land Rover defender is based on the original series 1 and built on from there. To most people’s eyes, there’s very minor differences between new and old. The defender is filled with so many stories and too many adventures to even begin to write. The reason it takes second place however is that they are not that rare. Something legendary has to be rare. For the most iconic Land Rover there is no contest. But as a legend it’s second to 1.

3. Land Rover Range Rover l322

It’s a-bit controversial putting the Range Rover L322 so high on this list. This car was notorious from breakdowns such as timing chain issues to turbos. Basically what I’m saying is that they are high maintenance. But the reason it takes this place for me is that it’s the most ‘Range Rover’ Range Rover after the Classic. The p38 had a different arrangement of headlights and the hood was also slightly less Range Rover Classic. The p38 also lacked that lengthy look but looked rather more width oriented design and don’t get me started with the L405 because it has too many clones such as the Ford Explorer. The L322 has that distinct boxy look. The Range Rover classic’s ghost can be seen directly in it. There’s is no mistaking it for anything other than the Range Rover. At this point in time they are reaching the bottom of their depression curve but in a few years the story will be different. The reliability was slightly improved from the p38 too. This car has been featured in soo many movies and commercials. Till this day the queen of England rolls around in hers. I doubt there is a nut on this planet that wouldn’t recognise it. This is why as a legendary Land Rover, It has to be here.

4. Land Rover Discovery L319/ Lr3&4

The L319 is a world class beast. This car has respect wherever it goes because when it comes to the rough stuff, good luck finding a car that isn’t a wrangler that can compete. It’s not the off-road capabilities that earned it this place however. First of all it has that look, that diplomatic look that makes whoever is in it look important so long as they bought it in the right colour. It’s a pure Land Rover! Rubber buttons, heavy doors, pure box on wheels. The driving position is by far the best out of an land rover ever made! And in-terms of practicality it’s absolutely phenomenal! It can seat 7 adults comfortably. The car looks at home wherever it goes but it looks especially good when it’s mud plugging. It’s more comfortable than the defenders yet more practical than the Range Rovers and it makes it the perfect compromise between the two.

5. 2020 Land Rover Defender

This is without doubt the hottest SUV of 2020. Although it maybe wouldn’t be considered a direct replacement for the old girl. It could be considered a replacement for the LR4 which is a certified beast. It’s has the awesome looks. If you buy it it will actually boost your sex appeal. It’s definitely an aphrodisiac. Only time will tell it’s reliability but so far it’s okay and very good for a Land Rover especially. If you see it on the road you cannot ignore it. You can’t mistake it for a jeep! Its also considered by many as the best stock off-roader you can buy today as long as you equip it correctly! However most people buy these cars for looks and status and it truly does succeed in that category. The reason it scores less than the lr4 is because it’s not as true to the defender name and it’s not as practical as the l319.

6. Land Rover Discovery 1&2

No car on this list has won more awards than these ones when it comes to off-roading. It didn’t score better than the l319 because the Lr3&4 are better in every single way. This list wouldn’t be complete without having this discovery on the list because this stays true to the Land Rover formula which is an off-road vehicle that of go on the road comfortably. Iconic boxy shape and questionable reliability. It’s not as special as the Classic or the defender and for that reason I could score it any higher than 6th because without that special feeling it cannot top the more reasonable cars on this list.

7. Range Rover Evoque

To some this may not be a true ‘Range Rover’ but the fact of the matter is it shaped all Land Rover products we know today. The sleek look and less utilitarian shapes all started with the evoque. Without this car who knows where the brand would be today? It made a change in Land Rover design and intern helped boost sales. It can still off-road even for it’s small size. It’s futuristic look revolutionised Land Rover and the current Range Rovers all look like bigger evoques. For that reason and that reason alone, it takes the last slot on this list.
