Ladies and Gentlemen and others,

The car market is changing! Back in the day people used to buy cars for many different reasons such as practicality and all that but these days things are a little bit different. I’m sure by now you’ve noticed that everything is going sporty. Everything! Even a Nissan Navara but why!

I predict that the car market is going the way of the phone market. In those days, phones were so slow that everyone was benchmarking speed but now phones are so fast that it doesn’t even matter anymore. These days people buy because of badge and looks. I mention this because to find the perfect vehicle, there needs to be a criteria to judge upon and its not going to be speed or sportiness because realistically, almost every car on sale today is more than fast enough for everyday use and especially electric cars so this will not hold much weight in my judgement because you’re not going to be doing 200mph to go to Tescos and Costa Coffee. You could but you will only do it a couple of times before you end up in jail or dead.

My criteria is based on what car can serve the most needs but also the most wants. I believe that the more important things in this criteria are Practicality, looks, status and general usefulness and adaptability and great value and availability.

Lets start with the Mini Cooper, It is an Icon especially here in Britain. It’s such a good price and it sort of has the charm of one of those small dogs with curly fur and same with the Fiat 500 actually. I’m not so sure about the status, practicality and I’m most definitely not sure they are very useful because man is the fiat 500 tiny. Im a 6’5″ man and I don’t know if I can handle the giggles my friends would give me if I owned a coral Fiat 500. They are not that useful too because once you grow up into a family with children, you might find that the cricket equipment won’t fit for your 2.2 kids. Of-course Mini compensates by making that huge gigantic MINI Countryman but it looks weird to be honest. The BMW 4 series is on a different level. It looks great, its fast and it can carry 4 people. The cabriolet version is my favourite although it is the least useful. To be honest the Gran Coupé version is the most useful despite it being a 3 series hatchback. But man aren’t those cars low to the ground. I love it but its not very practical or useful especially in countries that are not first world.

What about the very popular cars? The Ford Fiesta The Ford Focus (oh wait… do those still exist?), the Toyota Corolla and the VW Golf. I have to admit they are very good contenders and that’s why people buy them. They actually have a more mature status than Minis and Fiat 500’s because they are just less toy like. However none of them is going to inspire dropped jaws and owning one of them is like not owning a car at all because they are not aspirational things. They Lack Charm and Charisma and attitude. Very practical things too although their popularity is going down in the favour of small suv’s because they are just more practical.

So what’s with the small Suv’s? The Range Rover Evoque is an aspirational thing. It does all the things that all the cars above do but it looks better than all of them. It also carries more. Its popular too so should I just end it here though? Well…..The Evoque is a very small SUV in my opinion. I couldn’t fit in the front and I definitely couldn’t fit in the back. The Evoque is Ideal for a small family I must admit but, Can it keep up with its top rival which is the Porsche Macan? Not Really. It just doesn’t have the driving dynamics, status, quality and Kudos of a Porsche Macan.

Speaking of Porsche, They have really good reviews and tied for the highest customer satisfaction up there with Lexus. The Panamera is my favourite Porsche despite its questionable looks. It has a lot of presence though and I love that but realistically speaking, none of them are as good for a biggish family and not as practical as the Porsche Cayenne. So what’s with the Porsche Cayenne? Well…. Its the bigger car! The driving dynamics are excellent and I think it’s useful in all conditions. It has status and its practical, Looks very excellent these days and speed is a no question thing. The new Cayenne has a lot of presence and absolutely is an aspirational thing. To be honest I could just end it here but the thing is the price to buy new is very expensive indeed. Everything is an option so the price racks up very quickly.

The Cayenne is a very good contender and if reliability was part of this equation, The Cayenne would have won but, When it comes to new cars why does reliability matter? First 3 years are not going to be catastrophic regardless of the brand especially if the cars have a warranty so……. Let’s talk about the Land Rover Range Rover. While the Cayenne is to me is far better than the Range Rover Sport, The Big Range Rover is on a different deal. The ride quality cannot be argued with and you can’t help the fact that a Big Range Rover is far less showy than something like a Porsche Panamera. You see them everywhere and get used to them because at the end of the day, a Land Rover is a Land Rover with its humble roots in agricultural work. The Range Rover also has something that is new to this comparison because people have friends and family and the Range Rover now has 7 seats as an option. Something new too to this comparison is its off-roadability. The Porsche Cayenne is good off-road but a lot of the things that make it good are optional and Land Rovers specialty is off-roading. The Range Rover and the Land Rover Discovery and Defender are on a different Level when it comes to off-roading.

The Range Rover however these days, too expensive. Remember when you could get a Range Rover for £60000? Now it’s £100000 for a mid spec one. It’s Mad!! I’m sorry but if you have chocolate eating kids, You’re not going to have them in your £100000 Range Rover and considering how quickly these cars lose value, we are going to have to go down the line. The Land Rover Discovery used to be on a different level. The Discovery 3 and 4 need to be brought back. Those cars were legendary because they felt indestructible and there was very little you could do to harm them. They did everything right! Sadly they don’t make them anymore and instead they replaced it with a Range Rover with 7 seats. (New Discovery) And the Old Discoveries they were bigger than the defender 110 which in reality feels like the true spiritual successor to the Discovery 4. I mean this is where we could bring up the Rivian R1s but have you ever seen one of those in Europe or in the UK? That’s right, American market cars so if there’s no support, there’s no point.

We are in serious trouble deciding on this because to do all things right including off-roading and adventures is hard and electric car range and infrastructure is not on that level yet and charging take long. Having a road trip outside of a country without good infrastructure for electric cars makes them unsuitable for the contenders for the Perfect worldwide vehicle although the Rivian R1s and Mercedes EQS SUV is the closest to it so far. So what is the best car in the world?

The Defender 110 is on a different level but its not big enough to carry seven plus luggage and then off-road and still be cool but, Land Rover has done something monumental! They released something I found very funny looking at first till I saw some live videos, It’s low key the most perfect car in the world and that’s the Defender 130! There is nothing that this car does wrong, admit it! It is useful in every situation that you can think of in a day to day life. It looks good and without question, Defenders are cool. Whether you’re a macho man or a barbie, you can still drive a defender! It’s not too showy and can definitely be suitable for UN use. It’s not as expensive as the 7 seat Range Rover but is still useful, practical and utilitarian enough to comfortable do some dirty work in and have messy children. Off-road? what kind of question is that? There’s nothing wrong and as I said with a new car reliability shouldn’t be the biggest concern.

Before I crown the defender the most perfect car, let’s go around. American competitors these days are things like the escalade although that isn’t as good off-road and still isn’t sold everywhere. Japanese have the Land Cruiser but it’s not as useful because it doesn’t have the comfort or space of a Defender 130, Nissan patrol is too old. The 7 seat Bentayga is too expensive and is not an off-roader. Cullinan doesn’t have 7 seats. Chinese rivals have no support anywhere else in the world and do not have the same Badge Kudos or mass appeal and cool factor. The Audi Q7 is excellent but many don’t like the way it looks. Its not as spacious but The Q7 for me is an amazing car still. It’s up there with the Cayenne, especially the SQ7! Just an Amazing amazing car. Can’t off-road as well though. I might just have to say it!

The most perfect vehicle in the world is…….

Land Rover Defender.

It serves its purpose as a tool to a mass market, a status symbol and an aspirational thing better than any other vehicle in the world until i’m proven wrong of-course. Competitors include the Toyota Land Cruiser and The Nissan Patrol which is a terrible car by 2022 standards. If you believe that anything else would have been a better contender then please comment down below. But so far, to me at least, defender 130? Different Level.
